About

Sourced from the most established coffee producing regions in Uganda, regions in their peak in the 70s that were responsible for helping replace much of the world's coffee shortfall when Brazil experienced devastating frost damage. Investment and infrastructure from large coffee exporters flooded the region - some of these facilities are still utilised today, but many are now left abandoned and a cold reminder of the temporary and exploitative way coffee is often acquired. Mt Elgon coffee producers are some of the most experienced in Uganda, but also wary of coffee buyers and being taken advantage of. The Ugandan led Zukuka Bora team have made great strides in establishing trust in the region, with constant presence on the ground and more recently with the purchase of land for a buying station and processing facility. The experience of the resident producers has helped accelerate Zukuka Bora's development and quality beyond expectations, particularly with alternative processing methods like this one. The ripe cherry is picked and dried on raised beds, turned regularly and monitored constantly reaching the desired moisture percentage. Over the years the naturally processed coffees have consistently had ripe mango aromas, intense sweetness like muscat and ripe stone fruit acidity. This coffee is imported by us directly from our partners in Uganda, Zukuka Bora. We are very proud to see this coffee improve each year and represent and celebrate a new global reputation for excellent specialty coffee from Uganda.

  • ⚲ Mt Elgon, Uganda

On Uganda's eastern boarder with Kenya, Mt Elgon sits proudly as an iconic coffee producing region. It has fallen from its global significance in the late 20th century, but is slowly regaining a place in the specialty coffee world. Many producers gave up on coffee when prices where poor and avenues to market disappeared, but with the help of Kua customers we can continue to partner with producers who are embarking on coffee careers once again.

  • Sustainable Practices

Zukuka Bora is committed to providing meaningful work for their community, employing more than 250 local workers throughout the harvest season. Their operations have a huge flow-on effect for the region, with more children able to go to school, more families able to improve their homes, and more farmers embracing coffee for their livelihood.
